What you will be doing:
Help prepare a meal for up to 40 people, as an individual or in a group. Either at home or on the premises. If serving the food as well, you will be talking with and getting to know hostel residents.
Skills, Experience, Attributes Required:
Experience of cooking simple meals for large number of people can be useful. For relating to clients: good listening skills, patience, sense of humour, non-judgemental attitude. Willingness to work to Project’s policies, such as confidentiality.
Restrictions:
As Arc Light works with vulnerable people, volunteers are required to disclose criminal convictions (although these do not automatically exclude volunteers).
Additional Skills and Development acquired:
Understanding of issues around homelessness. Experience of working in a stimulating and rewarding environment. A chance to expand voluntary roles over time.

Disclose criminal convictions Attend initial meeting to discuss your interests and decide a voluntary role Attend induction session We may take up references
Additional Training Offered:
Training may be made available, if a training need is identified.
What expenses are covered:
Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed upon the completion of an expenses claim form
Kitchen Volunteer: York Arc Light Project Opportunity ID: 21
Level of commitment: 7.30pm to 9pm, once or twice per month

What you will be doing:
Helping a team of volunteers serve a meal prepared by others. Talking with and getting to know hostel residents during evening meal times.

Level of commitment: One evening per week (7pm-9pm)

Location of Volunteering: York Arc Light Project, Leeman Road, York
What you will be doing:
Talking to hostel residents during evening meal times. Option of helping with quizzes and other evening activities. Helping the staff on duty and other volunteers if appropriate.
