Level of commitment: one evening per week (3 hours maximum)

Time Restrictions: Between 6pm and 9pm Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday
Location of Volunteering: The Old Coach House, Grange Garth (Off Fishergate), York
What you will be doing:
Being in the office whilst mediation appointments are taking place. Greeting clients when they arrive, showing them where to wait (and keeping clients separate as appropriate), making drinks for them. Undertaking photocopying jobs as and when required. Supporting the mediators generally. It is a good opportunity for people to find out what mediation is all about.
Skills, Experience, Attributes Required:
Friendly, approachable, calm. Interest in people. Understanding. An awareness of and adherence to our Confidentiality policy. Able to bring something to do as much of the time is just being in the office without set tasks.
Additional Skills and Development acquired:
working with people in dispute and therefore in great distress. Often very emotional situations. Volunteer will not be present in the room whilst mediation is going on, but there may be opportunities to observe occasionally if the volunteer wants to.
Requirements before volunteering:
A reference will be required.
Additional Training Offered:
training will be given on an informal basis by the Service Manager, who will keep in regular contact with the volunteer. She will inform volunteer when they are needed, as there are not always appointment every week
