Children’s Society – PACT Student Befriending Scheme
The Student Scheme is a befriending scheme for disabled children/ young people up to the age of 18. Once approved, volunteers are ‘linked’ with a children or young person to support them to fully participate in age appropriate leisure activities to help them to increase their independence skills, social skills, confidence and self-esteem. Volunteers usually offer between 2 and 4 hours per week or fortnight, during term time and sometimes during the holidays for a minimum of one year. Volunteers usually work on a one-to-one basis with the young people, however we encourage socialising of the young people so some friendship groups are encouraged for the volunteers.
