Programme Representative Info

What is a programme rep and why do we need them?

Programme Reps (PR) are vital for the academic well-being of the University.  As a PR, you have the opportunity to play a direct role within the academic decision making of the University by helping make sure that students get more of what they deserve from their course.  You also have the opportunity to help your fellow students sort out any problems that may arise during their academic careers here at York St John. Been a PR allows you to become more actively involved in both University and Union life and open the door to new opportunities to become even more involved in activities and really have your say.

Being a PR allows you to help other people and enhance and develop vital skills, recognisable to employers. The job at times can prove challenging and difficult, each and every situation you find yourself in as PR is both a rewarding and learning opportunity.

Programme Rep Responsibilities:

-         To accurately represent their fellow students.

-         To identify issues on your course.

-         To report on any action taken about issues on the course

-         To attend programme rep induction.

-         To attend regular (monthly) meetings with the Students’ Union

-         To identify yourself to course mates and make yourself available for them to contact about issues

If you would like even more information about being a PR and how it become a PR speak to your head of programme or get in contact with the VP Education and welfare, Katie Knowles on k.knowles@yorksj.ac.uk, or the Opportunities Co-ordinator, Joanne Piddington on j.piddington@yorksj.ac.uk, at the Students Union.
