York St John Students’ Union
House Rules 2007-2008
The following is a summary of the rules governing behaviour in the Students’ Union including Archie’s Bar, Fresh and Essentials Shop. The Students’ Union is a safe, inclusive environment and these behaviour guides are designed to protect students and staff alike.
1: The Students’ Union is a safe & inclusive space for staff and students.
2: Physical violence and verbal or non verbal acts of harassment will not be accepted and individuals will be disciplined as set out in the disciplinary policy.
3: Individuals asked to leave the Students’ Union by a member of Students’ Union Staff, must do so quickly and without protest. Being asked to leave the Students’ Union does not necessarily mean that you will be brought to disciplinary, but failure to co-operate with staff does.
4: According to the Licensing Act it is illegal for staff to serve alcohol to drunk people. Occasions may arise when an individual is refused service by Students’ Union staff. This should be respected as a matter of course as the staff are simply abiding by licensing legislation.
5: Union staff are subject to Health & Safety law and at times may require individuals or groups to stop their actions, which are breaking health and safety law.
6: York St John University students can sign up to two guests into the Students’ Union. If you are signing-in a non-member of the Students’ Union you are responsible for that individual’s behaviour. If any incidents arise which result in the discipline procedure the student who signed in the guest will be disciplined.
7: The Students’ Union reserves the right to conduct random searches of persons wishing to enter the building.
8: The possession of weapons or illegal substances will be looked upon as serious discipline matters.
9: Smoking is not permitted inside the Students’ Union building.
10: Only drinks in plastic bottles/glasses are allowed outside the Students’ Union building.
11: Damage and theft to the Students’ Union premises or goods will be looked upon as serious discipline matters.
12: Please contain noise and actions upon leaving the Students’ Union in order to respect the local residents, students on campus and our future license applications.
13: Respect what you are asked to do by the Students’ Union staff.
14: Enjoy the environment and space of the Students’ Union.
